Saturday, April 13th, BCLA in collaboration with LAVA hosted a seminar on Legal Training for entrepreneurs at the Michelson Centre for Convergent Sciences at USC. The main speaker, Matt Crowley, is a successful venture lawyer in Los Angeles County. Mr. Crowley’s practice is focused on assisting entrepreneurs in creating new businesses and achieving their goals for growth, having a keen interest specifically in start-ups. Since, 2006, Mr. Crowley has been actively involved with LA Venture Association (LAVA) , having served as president for two years and a board member for seven years. He is also an adjunct professor with Loyola Law School, teaching venture law.
On Saturday’s half-day seminar, Crowley discussed a variety of topics which included understanding and building capitalization tables, networking with investors at venture capital events and managing intellectual property. One of the most well received topics of the day by the many entrepreneurs in the audience was valuation for startups and selecting partners for starting your new venture. Very interesting feedback from our attendees showed that the topics covered my Mr. Crowley were new, fresh and something which is not common knowledge to the general public. The plethora of topics covered also demonstrated the complexity and challenges of guiding a successful startup, shedding light on topics new to the audience. As an added bonus and in spirit of Festival of Books, held at USC that weekend, Mr. Crowley generously gifted all attendees his book “Getting In The Game”.
We would like to thank Mr. Crowley for his efforts in this workshop and to the attendees for giving up some of their Saturday to learn! Click here for more information and to buy ‘Getting In The Game’
