The unexpected heat on June 12th did not keep people from attending our summer mixer. In the upbeat space offered by our sponsor Phase Two in Culver City, people broadened their network, increased their companies’ visibility, and looked for the next stepping stone in their career.
Brian Benson, Director of Entrepreneurship & Commercialization at CNSI, excitedly emphasized that their incubator Magnify is now also accepting start-up applications from outside UCLA. By providing lab space and connecting with mentoring and capital opportunities, Magnify has developed a rich portfolio of companies specializing in pharmaceutical, medical devices, and advanced materials. Kyle McClary, PhD candidate and President and Founder of BASA, from the USC Bridge Institute presented their efforts in connecting scientists and artists from multi-disciplines throughout the campus to improve human health. This summer, they are hosting the 4th annual Bridge UnderGraduate Science (BUGS) program, with the goal to train the next generation of students to better understand the human body.
Besides the two long-term collaborators, our most recent new core sponsor representative, Howard Xu, PhD, Director of Incubator Development and Programming at Cal State LA, announced the upcoming 3rd LA BioStart Boot Camp, and gave an update on the construction of LA BioSpace, which will be able to accommodate 25 start-up companies, once it’s completed.
The food and drinks spiced up the networking hours, and the smooth blond ale from Progress Brewing was a perfect match to the tacos right off the smoking grill. Science, together with tacos and beer were definitely in the limelight this evening.
The face of LA life sciences is changing rapidly. We welcome you to join our next events to be part of the transformation!
