BCLA & Friends’ Happy Hour Recap: Opening The New Term with Connection and Celebration

On March 6th, BCLA & Friends kicked off the year not just with an event, but with a moment of connection that brought the Los Angeles biotech community together in an authentic and energizing way. From the moment attendees walked into Q’s Billiard Club, the space quickly filled with conversation, curiosity, and a shared excitement for what lies ahead in biotech.

Students, trainees, and professionals from diverse backgrounds came together, each bringing their own stories, ambitions, and perspectives. What started as casual introductions soon evolved into meaningful discussions—about career transitions, industry insights, and the many paths that shape a life sciences career. Laughter, idea-sharing, and spontaneous networking turned the evening into more than just a happy hour; it became a reflection of the strength and openness of the LA biotech community.

With close to 50 attendees, the energy in the room was undeniable. New connections were formed, familiar faces reconnected, and many left not only with expanded networks but also with renewed motivation and inspiration. The overwhelmingly positive feedback we received reinforced what we strive to build at BCLA—a community where people feel welcomed, supported, and excited to grow together.

As the first event of the year, this gathering set the tone for what’s ahead: more opportunities to connect, learn, and collaborate. It was a reminder that behind every innovation in biotech are people—and that building strong, genuine relationships is at the heart of meaningful progress.

BCLA extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so memorable. We are especially grateful to our core sponsors— Magnify at CNSILA BioSpace, Teknova, and Amgen, whose sustained partnership and investment continue to elevate and strengthen the biotech community across Los Angeles.
