Highlights from BCLA’s holiday mixer

To celebrate the season, as 2018 comes to an end, BCLA teamed up with ScaleLA to bring together people from a wonderfully diverse number of industries. Attendees ranged from academics to start-up founders, management, attorneys and even from the entertainment industry. They all came to explore and grow the biotech scene in Los Angeles.

This fantastic event with close to 100 professionals in attendance was all about networking and encouraging people from different sectors to learn from each other and forge future collaborations. We kicked off the evening with a short introduction to BCLA’s mission and team by our External Relations Lead, Valentina Sanghez. Followed by a brief talk from close partner and BCLA core sponsor, LA Biostart CEO, Howard Xu. Howard spoke of the strong bond between LA Biostart and BCLA and highlighted their excellent Bioscience Entrepreneurs Boot Camp Program for the winter of 2019, which is currently looking for applicants. The final remarks for the evening came from ScaleLA CEO, Taylor McPartland, who described the mission of their company, the exciting collaborations they are investing in and of course wished everybody a happy holiday season and new year!

The rest of the evening was focused on allowing attendees to network

and explore. With spectacular 360 degree views of the city of Los Angeles, particularly the 405 (strangely beautiful when you’re not driving!), drinks flowed and food was eaten amongst the chatter of excited researchers, passionate CEOs and advice giving lawyers. The BCLA holiday photo booth was of course open and captured some of the great moments of the evening. To see these photos make sure to check our facebook page.

A huge thank you to ScaleLA for making their fantastic office space available, and to all the attendees for making this event so diverse and fun. Happy holidays to all of you! All of us at BCLA are excited to bringing you more events, mixers, summit and fireside chats in 2019.

The BCLA team.
