Finding the money! How to get capital for your startup
On Wednesday, April 10th, BCLA and Lab Launch presented the first Biotech Entrepreneurship Coalition (BEC) Seminar of 2019. The event was held at Norris Cancer Center on USC HSC Campus and many people coming both from industry and academia attended. The audience enjoyed a fantastic talk on “How to fund a startup and the essentials for attracting private investment”, by serial entrepreneur Llewellyn Cox.
Our featured speaker and BCLA advisory board member, Llewellyn Cox, has a strong background in startups and had many success stories to share. Llewellyn is co-founder and general partner at MarsBio, a Los Angeles-based venture accelerator. He is also CEO of BioBuilt, a laboratory design firm, as well as founder and president of Lab Launch, Los Angeles’ leading non-profit biotechnology incubator network. Llewellyn received his PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology at Cardiff University, before moving to New York City to do postdoctoral research in neuroscience at Weill Cornell Medical College. Currently, in addition to his other roles Llewellyn is also adjunct professor in translational biology and science communications at Keck Medicine of USC. In his insightful talk, Llewellyn provided an overview of the options for initial funding for startups and outlined the legal and financial steps new entrepreneurs need to take in order to create a biotech startup worth investing in!
We would like to thank our event sponsor BioBuilt and KPAC for their support and all our attendees for joining us for this excellent seminar.
